Sister School Coat Drive
10/20/2021 2:12 pm
Hi Generous (and growing) Wilchester Families! It is time once again for the annual WCE Coats for Kids Coat Drive sponsored by the Sister School Committee. Our goal this year is to collect ONE HUNDRED winter coats for our friends at Spring Shadows Elementary so that nobody has to walk to school COLD this year!
What: EXCELLENT USED CONDITION or BRAND NEW coats (children’s sizes XS - XL)
When: Now through November 5th
Where: Drop in ANY Coat Drive collection bin at WCE - they will be labeled
Items NOT accepted: hoodies, rain jackets, sweatshirts, sweaters, hats, gloves, scarves, stained/broken jackets
Now is the perfect time to do this as the weather starts to cool down and we are going through our closets and taking inventory of what our kids have outgrown. Please make sure that all donations are in good working order (intact zippers and buttons, etc) and are clean before you drop them off. We appreciate your help with this as it saves dramatically on the sort time!
We are having a friendly competition between the grade levels on this kindness challenge so be sure your student let’s their teacher know if they drop a coat in the box. Each donation wins a link to paperchains in the rotunda. Bragging rights to the color band that creates the longest chain.
Thank you for your generous spirit - it’s what makes WCE such a great place to be!
Questions, contact Liz Spradling.
Weed the Marque
10/20/2021 1:16 pm
Do you have a green thumb and want Wilchester to look its very best?
If so, please grab a friend and consider volunteering to weed the flower bed around the marquee at WCE! We just need volunteers to do it, on their own time, once a month. It only takes about an hour and it's good for the soul!
Pick a day and time that work for your schedule, preferably during the first week of the month. Gloves and a trash bag are suggested. Weeds may be deposited in the compost bin at the NE corner of the playground.
Thank you for helping to beautify WCE!
Sign up for a time to weed the marquee HERE.

- If your child is not the "dress up type" that is totally OK. They can still walk with their class in the parade.
- Send your child to school on time!
- The parade will begin promptly at 8am as some kiddos need to leave to attend GT classes at Bendwood.
- Parents are invited to watch the parade outside (totally optional).
- Parents may line up on the edge of the hardtop and then along the walking path from the hardtop to the front, main entrance.
- And if you haven't already checked out the Book Character Pumpkins or shopped the Book Fair, come inside and do so after the parade.

It’s time for our Fall Follett Book Fair!
Come visit the Library from October 25th - October 29th from 8:00am - 3:00pm and October 27th from 8:00am - 5:00pm. We encourage you or your loved ones to come to the school during lunch or recess to shop with your child. The children will also have a chance to go during the week with their class. This is the perfect opportunity to add some new books to your library, donate books to the classrooms, or get in some early holiday shopping.
You may shop any day, but we are bringing back Loved Ones Day on Tuesday, October 26th which gives grandparents, parents, or other loved ones a chance to shop with their children and we make it special with things like a photo backdrop and activities. Plus, you'll be able to vote on Character Pumpkins. Questions about Loved Ones Day, contact Wendy Swantkowski.
Follett Book Fairs have digital gift cards available for a secure form of contactless payment for your child to use at the book fair. Visit the link HERE to pick out a fun gift card design to purchase.
Shop Follett’s online book fair as well, open now through October 29th HERE. Wilchester's code is k5224.
We also need volunteers to make this event possible! Please consider signing up for set-up, tear-down, and/or cashier shifts HERE. It's a quick shift and the kids love seeing their parents checking out their books.
We look forward to seeing you there!

Birthday Book Club
Do you want to honor your child's birthday in a special way?? The Wilchester Birthday Book Club is a great way to celebrate your child’s birthday and help grow our school library!
To honor your child, simply purchase a book for the library. Books will be delivered on the first Monday of each month (with the exception of September and January). The honorees will be the first to receive and read the books. When finished, they will return the books to the library for others in the school to check out and enjoy!
If you want to honor a summer or September birthday, please ensure you have purchased a book by August 26th!
And remember, hardcover books will last longer in our school library, so please consider donating a hardcover book when possible.
