What is Odyssey of the Mind (O.M)?

Odyssey of the Mind is an international educational program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students from kindergarten through college. The students apply their creativity to solve problems that range from building mechanical devices to presenting their own interpretation of literary classics.  They will work in a group of 5-7 to selected a problem, brain storm & develop solutions and implement their ideas.  It is 100% student driven with only guidance and clarification from their coach.

Why should a student participate?

  • Allows kids to use their imaginations to interpret and solve complex problems in a FUN way.
  • Promotes interest in STEAM
  • Helps develop divergent, independent thinking abilities
  • Helps develop real life communication, teamwork and brainstorming skills
  • Rewards creativity and calculated risk taking

  • Coaches - 1-2 parent coaches per group

Thank You Green Png, Transparent Png

As a busy September comes to a close we want to thank the following volunteers and committees for their hard work at WCE this month.  They are truly helping to make this "A Year for the Ages!"

Our Homeroom Coordinators Cassie Greenway and Courtney Robertson for all of their hard work behind the scenes working with this year's homeroom parents and for leading another great homeroom parent training meeting at the end of August.

The Birthday Marquee Coordinator Lisa Hodges for overseeing the sales of the birthday marquees and for working with the front office to get those names on the birthday marquee this month and the rest of the school year.  We know how excited kids are to see their names on the marquee!

Our new Social Media Coordinator Annie McQueen for helping keep us all informed of what's happening around WCE. And there is alot to keep us informed about!

The PGP/GT Liaisons for organizing and hosting a Bendwood Parents Meeting at WCE.  This was a great chance for parents to get their questions answered and to learn more about the Spiral program: CrystalLee Potts, Emily Raines, Shayla Russell.

Odyssey of the Mind Chair Mariju Wille for hosting a very informative Odyssey of the Mind information session and helping to spread the word about OM!

The newly formed Internal Needs Committee (Brandi Stanton, Ashleigh Davis and Ashley Kunco) and the heart of Wilchester, Amanda Dikdan, for the work they have already done supporting the WCE community. And a big thanks to everyone at WCE who has donated snacks and hygiene packs this month!

Thank you again to everyone for helping make this truly "A Year for the Ages"!
