Gifted & Talented

WCE Students currently identified as Gifted & Talented (GT) may receive the following services through SBISD:

  • Primary Gifted Program (PGP): K – 2nd grade
In addition to daily GT services in their WCE classrooms, identified GT students in grades K-2 are offered GT services through a pull-out program for 90 to 120 minutes a week (students remain on the WCE campus during this time). Pull-out instruction focuses on the development of independent research skills and on meeting the social-emotional needs of GT students.

  • SPIRAL at Bendwood – serving 3rd – 5th graders
In addition to daily GT services in their WCE classrooms, identified GT students in grades 3-5 are offered GT services through a pull-out program that takes place at the Bendwood campus. Students are bussed from the WCE to Bendwood one day a week for a full day of services with GT students from other campuses.

Instruction in the SPIRAL program at Bendwood is interdisciplinary. Units of study are designed to provide the depth and complexity that GT students need, while also addressing their social-emotional needs. For the 2019 – 2020 school year, WCE students participating in SPIRAL go to Bendwood on Mondays. Please click here for the current year SPIRAL calendar for specific start and end dates to this program, which starts later and ends earlier than the normal SBISD calendar.

If you have a WCE Student currently identified as GT and would like further campus-specific information and ways to connect to other GT parents, please contact the WCE GT-Spiral Liaison to be added to the parent email list.

If your child is not currently identified as GT and if you are interested in applying, please visit the SBISD Advanced Academic Studies webpage and scroll down to the  “Forms and Information” section for details about the GT identification process. Specific questions concerning your child can be directed to your child’s teacher and the WCE Counselor.

Thank You Green Png, Transparent Png

As a busy September comes to a close we want to thank the following volunteers and committees for their hard work at WCE this month.  They are truly helping to make this "A Year for the Ages!"

Our Homeroom Coordinators Cassie Greenway and Courtney Robertson for all of their hard work behind the scenes working with this year's homeroom parents and for leading another great homeroom parent training meeting at the end of August.

The Birthday Marquee Coordinator Lisa Hodges for overseeing the sales of the birthday marquees and for working with the front office to get those names on the birthday marquee this month and the rest of the school year.  We know how excited kids are to see their names on the marquee!

Our new Social Media Coordinator Annie McQueen for helping keep us all informed of what's happening around WCE. And there is alot to keep us informed about!

The PGP/GT Liaisons for organizing and hosting a Bendwood Parents Meeting at WCE.  This was a great chance for parents to get their questions answered and to learn more about the Spiral program: CrystalLee Potts, Emily Raines, Shayla Russell.

Odyssey of the Mind Chair Mariju Wille for hosting a very informative Odyssey of the Mind information session and helping to spread the word about OM!

The newly formed Internal Needs Committee (Brandi Stanton, Ashleigh Davis and Ashley Kunco) and the heart of Wilchester, Amanda Dikdan, for the work they have already done supporting the WCE community. And a big thanks to everyone at WCE who has donated snacks and hygiene packs this month!

Thank you again to everyone for helping make this truly "A Year for the Ages"!
